Story
The founder and owner, Mr. Meinrad Alois Odermatt grows up as the son of a large family of butchers. As a young boy he happily spends his free time in the village on the farm, where the farmyard dog becomes his friend. Early in the morning, before school, he helps to milk the cows.
Before long, he wants more and he convinces his parents to allow him to keep his own rabbits in the garden. But his father, who runs a butcher’s shop, makes it very clear right from the beginning that the rabbits will be butchered and eaten when they are older. So, at an early stage, Mr. Meinrad Alois Odermatt learns about food and its origin. In his teens he develops a passion for a holistic view.
His enthusiasm for nature and its preservation instil in him a value, which develops profoundly over time and decisively influences his thoughts and actions even today.
Mr. Meinrad Alois Odermatt is quick to recognise customers’ needs for rabbit meat. In 1988 he sets up his own business and as a pioneer he begins to import rabbit meat to Switzerland. In the first phase he purchases and processes the rabbits.
But after a short time it becomes clear that only in-house rabbit breeding can meet high standards of animal husbandry and meat quality.
This success story still continues today. Delimpex AG is now an important competitor all over Europe and sets standards for animal welfare husbandry and meat quality.
The interest of Mr. Meinrad Alois Odermatt and his co-operation with faculties and scientists of universities at home and abroad have made him a renowned expert in the field of rabbit husbandry and rabbit meat processing.
In 2014 he was nominated honorary professor by the University of Kaposvár for his activities and research in this field. His personal motivation leads to quality enhancement to the benefit of customers. In this environment the whole Delimpex team is motivated to deliver top performance.
